Drink Lots of Water for Fitness!

Every diet and fitness plan tells us that we need to drink plenty of pure water... but exactly how much water to lose weight? One thing I learned recently, is that if you DON'T drink enough water, you will sabotage your weight loss success as your body will want to hold onto the little bit you may be getting because it is deydrated, thus you end up feeling more bloated and holding water.

Your body needs more water when you exercise. Drink water with every meal, to help you feel full and to help your weightloss program.

When you feel hungry it is often actually thirst. Your body needs plain old water, not soda, not coffee, not high fructose corn syrup. A glass of water can help stop hunger cravings.

The age-old standard about water is to drink a minimum of eight 8-oz glasses a day to keep hydrated and I read recently that you should drink one oz of water for every 2 pounds of weight which in my case would mean I would need to drink 12 glasses of water a day.. which seems like alot but once you consider all the things you add water to like soups or tea or food that contains lots of water like watermelon, veggies etc.. if you drink at least 8 glasses of actual water, you will be able to get the rest in your food and other beverages. (soda pop is not included!)

So if drinking water is a new goal and you haven't drank much in the past, start out, drink 2 glasses with each meal. This way you will make sure you are drinking at least six glasses a day. You'll find that you eat less at each meal and are not as hungry later. Have a glass before bed at night and a glass as soon as you wake up in the morning.  For your morning glass of water or room temperature water is fine so you don't upset your belly. You will visit the bathroom more often while your body gets used to all of this water. After a while your system will adjust and you won't go so often.

If you are exercising you will want to sip a glass of water afterwards. Try to get in some kind of exercise every day. Eight is not a magic number carved in stone. You can sip water all day at work. You can bring along a bottled water in your car. You can drink water with a twist of lemon or lime.

Get in the water habit and your weight loss program will work so much better and you will feel much better for it. If you have hit a plateau on your diet, this added water could be the missing key to weight loss success..
